Tutor Tips

Parents, now that the school year is up and running, here are some tips for staying on top of your student’s educational progress!

  • Ask the teacher to give you information about the planned curriculum, especially how she assigns and evaluates work. Be sure to attend your school’s Open House program.

  • Check your child's school work every night. What is the teacher assigning? Review your child's completed and corrected work. Try to do this even if he does homework with a tutor or caregiver.

  • Look for patterns in your child's school work. What subjects seem easy or challenging? Are certain tasks (such as writing or solving word problems) more difficult than others? What are your child’s favorite subjects?

  • Listen to what your child says about his school work, as well as his relationships with his teacher and classmates.

  • Try to make note of techniques or specific activities that seem to suit your child’s individual learning style. Communicate this information to your child’s teacher when appropriate.

By keeping a close watch on your child’s progress, you’ll be able to identify any areas concern right away, and always be able to praise your child for his success!
